Community
As a large school in the heart of Bexleyheath, we are acutely aware of our responsibilities locally, nationally and internationally. Consequently we value our links with the community and we are constantly striving to extend and consolidate these.
We have a ‘Goals’ soccer centre and a day nursery on the school site who share some of our facilities. In addition, our buildings are used after school in the week and at the weekend by local businesses and organizations including a yoga group, Police cadets, ‘Jazzercise’ and no less than eight churches! Some of these organizations also support in-school activities.
We work closely with our local primary schools in sharing our resources - in terms of the teaching facilities, staff and students. We have links with local faith communities and businesses and are always grateful for the support they give us. Our students regularly visit retirement homes and centres for older people.
Within Bexley, we are well represented on the Bexley Youth Parliament and our relations with local Police extend to them having an office on our school site. Our students are part of a pilot project run by the local NHS Trust to promote Youth services, and are consequently at the vanguard of a national scheme that will affect the lives of millions of young people.
We have links with schools in South Africa and members of our school are actively involved in raising funds to visit Kenya this summer in order to help build a school there.
We are constantly looking for new ways to involve and be involved with our community – we believe that the shared experiences that result enrich us all.
